Post 13 Members Who We Have Lost This Year

Kenneth Armstrong, Jr., 72, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at his home.

​

 Funeral services will take place at 11 am Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, in Anamosa, where friends may call from 9 am to the time of service. Inurnment, with full military honors, will take place in the spring at Norwich Cemetery, Martelle.  Kenneth Calvin Armstrong, Jr. was born September 21, 1949 in Iowa City, the son of Kenneth Calvin and Violet Mae (Skadsem) Armstrong, Sr. He attended schools in Martelle and Anamosa and graduated from Anamosa High School. He was drafted and served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Kenny worked at the Cargill Corporation in Cedar Rapids, retiring after 36 years.

 He was a member at both the Fawn Creek and Wapsi Country Clubs, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, golfing, NASCAR, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Above all else he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

 Kenny is remembered by his children Kevin (Stephanie) Armstrong, Coal City, IL, and Kristina Nelson, Tiffin, grandchildren Michael, Courtney, Alyssa, Cora, Wyatt, and Colton, sisters Sharon (Don) Fleming and Pam (Boomer) Denniston, all of Anamosa, by many nieces and nephews, and his two loving cats Lilly and Lewy.

 He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clarence “Ed” Brady age 94, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Terrace Glen, Marion.

 

Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are 4 children, Ann (David) Bunting, Brad (Susan) Brady, Patti (Kim) Greenwood, Joni (Doug) Rickels, 7 grandchildren, Matt, Beth, Ryan, Sean, Kory, Molly, Casey, 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way, his siblings, Helen Brady, Donna Schultz, Michael (Dixie) Brady, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was a 75 year member of Arthur McCullough American Legion Post 13 of Anamosa

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine and siblings, Bernice, Frank, Donald, Marcus, Patrice, Rita, Margaret, Lorraine and Robert. 

John Robert Chesire passed away peacefully at Sharp Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and children in San Diego, CA on Thursday December 16th, 2021. John is survived by his wife Catherine Chesire, daughter Suzie and son Ryan, Ryan’s wife Adelaida, grandchildren Matthew and Joshua, John’s sister Mary Kay Kuhfittig and her husband Peter, and their children, his niece Anne Marie and nephew Paul. John is preceded in death by his parents Milton and Helen Chesire.

John was born on September 20, 1946 in Anamosa, Iowa where he grew up on the family farm. As a child, he was a lover of animals and an active member of 4H. He attended St. Michael’s Elementary School, Anamosa High School and graduated from Creighton University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy and attended Naval Flight School in Pensacola, FL.

John served for 22 years in the Navy as a fighter pilot flying F-4’s and F-14’s. He flew 197 missions during the Vietnam War, was a graduate of Navy Fighter Weapons School “Top Gun”, and retired as a Commander. He then went on to fly as a Captain for America West Airlines for over 20 years. John had a true love for aviation. In his retirement, he found a passion for answering aviation related questions on the website Quora and was recognized as one their top writers for many years

John had a quick wit and loved a good practical joke. He loved his family dearly. His grandchildren brought much love and joy into his life. One of his favorite pastimes was watching them play soccer and baseball. John will be forever loved and greatly missed by all. He touched many lives.

Robert Prull, age 93, died Monday, October 18, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, October 22, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa.  Interment will be in the Springville Cemetery. Rev. Rodney Blumel will officiate at the services.   Friends may call from 4 until 7 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.  Due to the current health pandemic facemasks, properly fitted over the nose and mouth, will be required at all times inside the funeral home and the church. Surviving is her husband Robert, 3 children, Teresa (Keith) Bahl, Marion, Karen Dolter, Dubuque, Kelley (Julie) Prull, Cedar Rapids, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and another on the way, his in-laws, Ray Ellis, Katie Prull and Sandy Prull. He was preceded in death by hid parents, his wife, Bonnie a son-in-law Pat Dolter and 5 siblings,  Ralph, Mary Jo, Lorna, Betty and Larry.

Robert Paul Prull was born January 8, 1928 at the family home near Center Junction, Iowa.  He was the son of William and Ida Ketelsen, Prull.   He received his education in the Martelle schools where he graduated in 1946.  Bob drove a gas truck for Farm Service  before he went to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Robert Prull and Bonnie Kelley were married June 20, 1954 at the Springville Methodist Church.  The couple lived in Martelle and Bob worked at Economy Lumber in Cedar Rapids.  He later went to work for Iowa Electric where he was employed for 27 years.  

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, the call committee and the building committee.  Bob served on the Martelle Fire Department where he was the Assistant Fire Chief, he also served on the Martelle City Council.   He volunteered at Camp Courageous with the IBEW Local 204.  Bob was also member of the Anamosa Veterans.  He tried never to miss coffee with his friends at McDonalds in Anamosa.
